What do Trust Actually Mean?


Quite often we throw words around, never stopping to reflect on what do they really meant?  This is what the meaning of trust is in the dictionary:


Trust is confidence in the honesty or integrity of a person or thing.

An example of trust is the belief that someone is being truthful.

An example of trust is the hope a parent has when they let their teenager borrow a car.

The definition of a trust is an arrangement made that gives control or ownership of a property to someone for the benefit of another person.

An example of trust is a bank account that a person gets access to when they turn

  • Be open to share ideas and knowledge
  • Have Integrity and keep your promises – If you say you are going to do something then follow through – always
  • Be consistent in the way you treat everyone
  • Trust your team members
  • Communicate effectively and keep your conversations alive
  • Get to know your team members and fellow colleagues personally
  • Transparency – Be honest and upfront
  • Take ownership of your mistakes
  • Develop others and give credit where it is due.

  • Now that we understand Trust, it is time to build your credibility, so you become known as a trustworthy leader.

    It is always a good idea to initiate conversations with team members to clarify your new role, main objectives and agree on a way to communicate and collaborate in the future.


    This will give you the chance to show commitment and prevent any misunderstandings and misconceptions about your role inside the team.

    Inform the team of actions you take on their behalf even if you can’t always get what they request.


    Being open and honest builds credibility.
